Why, yes, I am a film dork!

I just wrote an e-mail to the film editor at The Guardian. Read and enjoy!

In Owen Gibson’s story on Ricky Gervais moving on to film (http://film.guardian.co.uk/news/story/0,12589,1605220,00.html), he mentions: “Gervais . . . will make his big screen acting debut next year in a film by Christopher Guest, director of This is Spinal Tap. . .” This is incorrect. Although Christopher Guest co-wrote “Spinal Tap”, Rob Reiner directed it (see the IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088258/combined). I am a huge fan of Christopher Guest. He did direct “Best in Show”, “Waiting for Guffman”, and “A Mighty Wind”, but not “Spinal Tap”.

I’m surprised this wasn’t caught in fact-checking, but I know a lot of people assume that Guest directed that film.

Thanks!

  1. Just passing through, cool blog by the way.

  2. Way to set them straight. Perfect examle of the role blogs play sometimes in double-checking facts asserted in the larger media.

Now, if only I could get you to turn to the dark side and pay more attention to the horror genre.
